Translation Automation History

Machine Translation History

The first reported ideas about translation automation were already in 17 century, but there was no possibility to put it into life. The first machines for automated translation appeared in 1933´s, and were used primarily in the military. In 1954´s was an experiment called Georgetown experiment which has succeeded by translating sixty Russian sentences into English. In the year 1960 was an experiment done by Russia and United States which has been focussed mainly on translation of English-Russian and Russian-English. In the 80´s were founded many companies that has been working on Translation Automation untill today. In the years 1990 runned a research about speech translation after the successes of speech syntetis and speech recognition. In the next years there was many experiments and attempts to create a machine that will translate the text like a human, but until today there is no perfect translation software.
